News BMC's Ligeti 100 Festival Wins Award

Budapest Music Center's Ligeti 100 festival won the Music Event of the Year award at the Bartók Radio Music Awards. László Gőz, founder and director of the BMC, received the award on 22 May 2024.

Ligeti 100, the one-week concert series organised by the BMC in May 2023 in memory of the world-famous composer György Ligeti featured performances by prestigious artists such as Lukas Ligeti, Víkingur Ólafsson, Kim Kashkashian, Steven Isserlis, Sarah Defrise, András Keller and the Ligeti Ensemble, Gábor Csalog and András Kemenes, the Modern Art Orchestra and the Miklós Lukács Cimbiosis Trio, the Moment's Notice Trio, Sašo Vollmaier, Máté Pozsár and Dániel Szabó.

Bartók Radio presented its awards for the first time in recognition of outstanding musical achievements from last year. Outstanding performers of Hungarian classical music received awards in eleven categories. The Bartók Rádió Music Awards included two special jazz prizes, the Babos Jazz Artist Award and the György Vukán Jazz Artist Award. In addition to these awards, the Bartók Radio staff presented the Instrumental Artist of the Year, Orchestra of the Year, Musical Event of the Year, Conductor of the Year, Musical Ensemble of the Year, Composer of the Year, Vocalist of the Year, Concert of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award of the Year to the greatest figures of the Hungarian classical music and jazz scene.

The event in the BMC Concert Hall featured performances by the Hungarian Radio Children's Choir, pianist Valentin Magyar, the brass quintet In Medias Brass, the Mikrokozmos Trio and the Péter Sárik Trio, Quartetto Speranza and clarinetist János Szepesi, and also commemorated Péter Eötvös, the two-time Kossuth and Prima Primissima Prize-winning composer who passed away in March this year.
