Superminimalism is a jazz quintet that Stefan Raczkowski established in 2020 as a space to implement individual compositional ideas. By definition, the band is characterised by a jazz sound, but the musical material goes in different directions in its concept. Raczkowski inscribes his works into larger, complex forms, using his previous experience with contemporary and orchestral music, and his fascination with the combination of stylistic features of jazz and elements of aleatorism and sonorism, the use of counterpoints and transformations. Limited instruments (three wind instruments, double bass and drums) and resignation from the harmonic instrument allow him to freely operate the melodic line and inspire an illustrative approach to music.
In 2021, Superminimalism made its debut during the Jazz Juniors competition, where they were awarded second prize and invited to the Polska Jazz Festival in Budapest and the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival in Canada. A year later, the band received the Grand Prix at the JAZZiNSPIRACJE competition as part of the Lublin Jazz festival, which resulted in the recording and release of the band's debut EP entitled Prelude.
