Bettika Bakos is a singer, composer, student of the Jazz Department of the Franz Liszt Music Academy. Bettika works with improvisation, free music, theater music, mantra singing, teaches and holds workshops. Her ensemble, the Bettika Quintet - the winner of the 2021 Müpa Jazz Showcase jury grand prize - employs elements of jazz, free improvisation, world music and contemporary poetry. The Quintet's upcoming album Víz ('Water'), which will be released in the beginning of 2022, features mainly their own compositions, including a number of poetry-based music with jazz-poetry or spoken word elements, the rhythm and lyrics of which are Hungarian poets (Dezső Tandori, Ede Tarbay, Ágnes Nemes-Nagy). The program also includes reworkings of pieces that can be classified as world music, mainly Hungarian and gypsy folk music melodies, which bring exciting colors to the concert program with their complex rhythms and drama. And the own pieces without text give room for free improvisation and playing with musical frames.
