The Glissotar is one of the newest instruments to be invented, being in development since 2016 by saxophonist Dániel Váczi and Tóbiás Terebessy as the first member of the Glissonic family of instruments. The essence of the Glissotar is that instead of holes in the body of the instrument, there is a longitudinal slot, which can be closed anywhere with the help of a string-like stretched magnetic strap. This makes it similar to a stringed instrument in its playing mode, while retaining its original wind character. The instrument is only five years old, but there is already a composer who has discovered a range of artistic possibilities in it. From the point of view of classical instruments, is the glissotar an exceptional violin, or rather a special clarinet? And if there are comparisons: can a piano concerto written today take on comparison with a piece by Mozart of a similar genre? We can promise that in the new season of the Classical Lights concert series, there will be no questions left in the air.
