Ligeti 100 | Ligeti on the Silver Screen
- Marcell Dargay - composer
Ligeti's music has found its way into film in unusual ways. The first episode of this story has become somewhat of a legend: Stanley Kubrick used excerpts from Lux Aeterna, Requiem, Atmosphères and Aventures without any permission for his 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey. The composer filed and won a lawsuit, but did not ask for monetary compensation; as he said, he was not upset by the financial implications but by the unfair process itself. In any case, Space Odyssey not only gave a huge boost to Ligeti's reputation as a composer, but also triggered other film directors to turn to his music. This evening, composer Marcell Dargay takes the listener on a journey into the depths of the relationship between film and music, and Ligeti's multi-faceted art. The language of the programme is Hungarian.
