Karnas is a regular performer at the Opus, nonetheless he never appeared there with the same lineup. For the present concert he arrives the first time with his quartet, consisting entirely of Polish musicians.
Karnas has worked with Poland’s jazz legends as well as top-line artists of Europe’s jazz scene. He’s being noticed by juries, journalists and audiences worldwide, and he was touring everywhere around the globe – just to mention France, Germany, Norway, Ukraine, Great Britain, Romania, Moldova, Belgium, Morocco, Denmark, Hungary, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Azerbaijan, Vietnam or China. He appeared at major jazz events such as the London Jazz Festival. Karnas started his bands in 1998. His projects, let them be trios without a harmonic instrument or quartets/quintets in different line-ups, are far removed from the classical paradigm. He likes drawing on the trance-like nature of ostinatos and the abstraction of modal playing, developed on the basis of simple melodic themes. A brief, general outline of the Grzegorz Karnas Formula in concert would be, according to the singer himself, “acoustic, energy-filled and groovily hipnotic music-making with a hefty dose of improvisation”.
The quartet’s special guest on the concert is the renowned Polish saxophone player, Radosław Nowicki.
