The UMZE Ensemble's concert presents newly commissioned works by two composers representing different generations of Hungarian musicmaking. László Tihanyi's Eternal Dream, a piece with two narrators speaking two languages – Japanese and Hungarian – is based on the short story 'Bisei no shin' by Japanese writer Ryūnosuke Akutagava and its Hungarian translation by Judit Vihar.
Máté Balogh's composition for alto solo and chamber ensemble uses the text of the last chapter of James Joyce's famous novel Ulysses. Molly's Dream presents in prose, in song and in speech the erotic dream of the book's protagonist's wife, Molly Bloom, expressed in an unpunctuated, associative stream of thought, and the three personalities of this female figure. The programme is rounded off by Toru Takemitsu's Rain Spell, also dreamlike, and Hans Abrahamsen's ensemble piece Wald as a Hungarian premiere.
